About
Sage Campground is a Bureau of Land Management facility installed in 2011 to accommodate large RVs within the North Sand Hills Special Recreation Management Area. The campground features 13 individual pull-through sites, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and tent pad. Two vault toilets serve the campground. Located approximately 11 miles northeast of Walden in Jackson County, the campground sits within Colorado's only sand dune area open to off-highway vehicle recreation. The surrounding landscape consists of sagebrush and rabbitbrush intermixed with stands of aspen, with lodgepole pine forest to the east of the active sand dunes. Wildlife includes deer, elk, and black bear. In addition to the developed campground, numerous dispersed camping sites exist throughout the North Sand Hills OHV area. The area offers over 300 acres of sand dunes and miles of surrounding trails. The campground operates seasonally and is free of charge. Visitors must pack out all refuse as there are no garbage services. Colorado OHV registration is required for all non-licensed vehicles using the dunes. The area is managed by the BLM Kremmling Field Office.
Directions
From Walden, take Highway 125 north about 10 miles, then turn east on County Road 6. Continue about 3.5 miles, then turn right on County Road 6N and go about 2 miles.
