About

Sage Campground sits within the North Sand Hills Special Recreation Management Area in Jackson County, approximately 11 miles northeast of Walden. Built in 2011, the campground was specifically designed to accommodate large RVs while providing access to Colorado's only open sand dune OHV area. The 13 developed pull-through sites each include a picnic table, fire ring, and tent pad, with two vault toilets serving the campground. The surrounding North Sand Hills area offers diverse recreation including OHV riding on sand dunes for dirt bikes, ATVs, side-by-sides, and sand rails. Connecting trails lead to State Forest State Park and U.S. Forest Service lands. Non-motorized activities include hiking, backpacking, hunting, and photography. The scenic backdrop features views of both the Park and Medicine Bow Mountain Ranges. This is a pack-it-out facility with no garbage services. Dispersed camping is also available throughout the OHV area. Colorado OHV registration is required for all non-licensed vehicles, and drivers must obey posted speed limits through camping areas. The area is very popular on holiday weekends during summer.
