Six Mile Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. Opens mid-June through mid-September, weather permitting. The campground gate closes in mid-September for winter.

About

Six Mile Gap Campground is located in a saddle above the North Platte River, two miles off Highway 230 in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest. The campground provides direct access to the North Platte River and the Platte River Wilderness Area, making it an ideal base camp for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts. The North Platte River is classified as a blue-ribbon trout stream by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, with populations of brook, brown, and rainbow trout. Special fishing regulations apply to this section of river. Douglas Creek also offers quality fishing opportunities nearby. The campground features a separate parking area for river floaters and hikers accessing the Platte River Trail. The campground sits at 7,606 feet elevation in the Snowy Range area, where lodgepole pine forests transition to sagebrush at lower elevations. Nine campsites include three pull-through sites that can accommodate trailers up to 30 feet. All sites feature picnic tables and fire grates. Bear canisters are provided for food storage. Pets are allowed on leash. Pack-it-in-pack-it-out practices are required as trash service may be limited.

Directions

From Encampment take Highway 230 southeast for approximately 27 miles to Forest Road 492. Turn left onto 492 and travel two miles to Six Mile Campground.
