About
Pittsburg Campground sits at the edge of Hells Canyon, North America's deepest river gorge, providing direct access to the Wild and Scenic Snake River. The 28-site facility operates year-round and is the only developed campground of its kind in the Snake River Corridor. Sites accommodate tents, trailers, and large RVs, with paved roads and camp spurs throughout. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, though fire restrictions apply June 1 through September 30 when only charcoal fires in fire pans are permitted. Amenities include vault toilets (ADA accessible), seasonal potable water available April through October, and an RV dump station. The campground serves as a base for fishing, boating, rafting, hiking, and exploring nearby attractions including Pittsburg Landing Boat Launch and the Pittsburg Rockart Interpretive Site. The approach via Deer Creek Road (Forest Road 493) is a steep, narrow, winding gravel road for 17.5 miles after crossing the Salmon River bridge. Idaho County maintains the road, and large RVs and trailers must exercise extreme caution. Quiet hours are 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
