About

Iron Phone Junction Campground is a rustic, no-fee horse camping destination located in the remote backcountry of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests in Idaho County. The campground offers four primitive campsites, each equipped with a fire ring and hitching rails for horses and pack stock. A vault toilet is on site, but campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash. This is true backcountry territory with no cell phone service and rugged conditions. The campground serves as a staging area for horseback riding and exploring the surrounding wilderness. While officially open year-round, winter snow often makes the access road impassable. The 11-mile drive on Forest Road 241 from Riggins requires a vehicle suited for unpaved mountain roads.
