The campground typically opens May 15th and operates through the fall season. First-come-first-served only; no reservations. Piped water is available during the operating season but is turned off for winter. Campers must pack out all trash.

About

Bear Valley Horse Camp is a free, first-come-first-served equestrian campground in the Leadore region of the Salmon-Challis National Forest. With 6 tent and trailer compatible sites, it serves campers traveling with horses and stock animals. The campground provides essential amenities including piped drinking water, a vault toilet, feed troughs, and hitch rails. The campground is accessed via Forest Service roads from Highway 28 near Lemhi. The route follows Hayden Creek Road and Forest Service Road #008 for 8.5 miles before taking the right fork onto Road #009 for another 3.7 miles to reach the lower campground. This remote setting offers direct access to backcountry trails in the surrounding national forest. As with all Salmon-Challis National Forest campgrounds, there is a 14-day stay limit. Campers should be prepared to pack out all trash as no garbage services are provided.

Directions

From Lemhi on Highway 28, turn west onto Hayden Creek Road. Follow Forest Service Road #008 for 8.5 miles, then take the right fork onto Road #009 for 3.7 miles to the lower campground. Located approximately 28 miles northwest of Leadore.
