About

McFarland Campground sits along the Lemhi River in Idaho's Lemhi Valley, a dramatic corridor between the Beaverhead Mountains to the east and the Lemhi Range to the west. The BLM-managed campground offers 9 sites suitable for both tent camping and RVs, positioned where the river creates a lush riparian zone lined with willows in an otherwise arid landscape. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets and potable water available in the campground. Public river access makes this a popular base for fishing the Lemhi River. The surrounding area provides opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, photography, and scenic drives, with roads leading into both mountain ranges. The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail runs along the Beaverhead Mountains to the east, offering day hikes or multi-day backpacking. Bear activity occurs in the area, so proper food storage in approved containers or locked vehicles is required.

Directions

Take Highway 28 east from Salmon, ID for 32 miles. The campground is on the left between the highway and the Lemhi River, approximately 13 miles north of Leadore.
