About

McFarland Campground offers 10 campsites for both RV and tent camping along the scenic Lemhi River. The Lemhi Valley lies between the Beaverhead Mountains and the Lemhi Range, where the river creates a lush riparian zone lined with willows in an otherwise arid region. The surrounding mountain ranges rise dramatically on both sides of the valley, creating a stunning backdrop for camping and outdoor recreation. The campground provides excellent public river access for fishing the Lemhi River, which is known for trout and seasonal steelhead runs. Area roads lead into both the Beaverhead and Lemhi Ranges, which are part of the Salmon National Forest, offering a multitude of recreation opportunities including motorized and non-motorized trails, hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing. The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail can be found along the top of the Beaverhead Mountains to the east of the campground and provides single-day or multi-day hiking opportunities. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management's Salmon Field Office, McFarland Campground is an unstaffed facility that operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. The campground features covered picnic tables at each site and vault toilets. Located approximately 32 miles east of Salmon on Highway 28, the campground sits between the highway and the Lemhi River, offering convenient access while maintaining a peaceful riverside setting.

Directions

Take Highway 28 east from Salmon for 32 miles. The campground will be on the left between the highway and the Lemhi River.
