About

Kingfisher Campground is a more primitive campground in Mount Hood National Forest that offers a true nature experience alongside modern conveniences. Located along the scenic Hot Springs Fork of Collawash River, a tributary to the Wild and Scenic Clackamas River, the campground sits in a mixed evergreen forest at approximately 1,250 feet elevation. The campground features nearly two dozen single-family sites for tent and RV camping, though RVs larger than 19 feet may have difficulty with tight turns. Each site includes a table and campfire ring with grill. Accessible vault toilets and drinking water are provided, and firewood is available for purchase. No utility hookups are available. Recreational opportunities abound in the area. Catch and release fishing for trout is permitted on the main fork of the Collawash River. Whitewater rafting and kayaking are popular on the river, with at least one 5-mile stretch featuring class III-IV rapids. The Bull of the Woods Wilderness lies just south of the campground with numerous hiking trailheads. Mountain biking is available on primitive forest roads nearby, and the Cascades Scenic Byway follows the Clackamas River. Bagby Hot Springs, a popular destination with historic bathhouses fed by natural hot springs, is located about 5 miles southwest.
