Rolfe C. Hoyer Campground is one of the most popular campgrounds in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, attracting families and seniors to its heavily forested setting at 8,300 feet elevation. The campground features nearly 100 shaded campsites situated on a bed of pine needles or grass, connected by gravel roads. Sites include picnic tables and campfire grills, and the facility offers modern amenities including shower facilities, a dump station, and trash collection. A campground host is available on-site and sells bundled firewood and ice. The scenic location in the White Mountains provides excellent access to outdoor recreation. Greer Lakes and the Little Colorado River are within walking distance, offering excellent fishing opportunities for rainbow, cutthroat, brook, and brown trout. Several hiking trails are accessible within a short drive, and the White Mountain and Coronado Trail Scenic Byways provide spectacular drives through the area. Educational programs are held at the amphitheater on Saturday evenings during summer. The area is home to chipmunks, Abert's squirrels, mule deer, and elk. Summer temperatures are pleasant due to the high elevation, though afternoon thunderstorms are common from late June through August. Visitors should be prepared for rain and cool to cold nighttime temperatures. Bears frequent the area, so proper food storage is required. The nearby town of Greer offers gas, groceries, restaurants, and equipment rentals.

Directions

From Show Low, Arizona, take Highway 260 southeast 42 miles to Highway 373. Take Highway 373 south 3 miles to the campground, which is on the right. From Greer, the campground is located two miles north of town on State Highway 373, across from the Greer Lakes.
