About

Cutthroat Campground sits at 9,000 feet elevation on the shoreline of Big Lake in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona. This 18-site tent-only campground is forested with large ponderosa pines, spruce, Douglas fir, and aspen trees that provide ample shade. Sites are well-spaced throughout the facility, with some directly on the waterfront. Big Lake is one of Arizona's premier fishing destinations, covering 450 acres and known for outstanding trout fishing. Anglers target rainbow, cutthroat, brook, and Apache trout. A boat ramp provides convenient lake access. The area is also popular for hiking, mountain biking, birding, and wildlife viewing throughout the surrounding Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. Summer temperatures are pleasant and cool, offering a respite from Arizona's lower desert heat. Visitors should come prepared for cool to cold nighttime temperatures and occasional heavy rainstorms through July and August. The campground is not designed to accommodate trailers or motor homes.
