About

Gabaldon Horse Camp sits at 9,400 feet elevation amid spruce trees at the foot of the Mount Baldy Wilderness. The campground is named for Juan Gabaldon, who retired from the Forest Service after working on many of the trails in this area. It provides a staging area for riders exploring the nearby wilderness trails. This is a primitive equestrian campground restricted to campers with horses or stock animals. The site offers a vault toilet and picnic tables but no potable water; campers must bring their own water supply. There are no hookups, dump stations, or showers. The campground is located off State Road 273, just east of Phelps Trailhead and near Colter Creek, making it an ideal base for day rides into the Mount Baldy Wilderness.
