About
Apache Trout Campground sits at 9,100 feet in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona within Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. The campground features a mix of individual sites, double sites, and large group areas capable of hosting 50 to 100 people. Notably, this is the only campground at Big Lake Recreation Area offering full hookup sites with electric service. The setting is forested with ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, spruce, and aspen interspersed with high-elevation meadows. Some sites are shaded while others get more sun. Summer temperatures are pleasantly cool, making it a popular escape from lower desert heat. Big Lake, a 450-acre reservoir just a short walk from camp, is renowned for rainbow, cutthroat, brook, and Apache trout fishing. The surrounding area offers hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, and wildlife viewing across the 2-million-acre Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest.
