About
Rocky Point Recreation Area is located on the 8,000-acre Belle Fourche Reservoir. The reservoir was created in 1911, when Orman Dam was constructed to store water for agricultural use. At the time of its completion, Orman Dam was the largest earthen dam in the world. In 1989, Orman Dam was designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. Glide along the water in a kayak or canoe, fish and take a boat out on the water when you camp overnight. Rocky Point Recreation Area offers sites with or without electricity and cozy one-bedroom cabins in scenic locations. Book your reservation quickly and easily using the online system. Cabins are built for four people and furnished with a double bed, set of bunk beds, heating, air conditioning and electricity. Cooking is not permitted inside, but an outdoor fire grate and picnic table are provided. Fishing is a popular activity at Rocky Point Recreation Area, and a boat ramp, fish-cleaning station and fishing pole checkout are provided. Species found in the reservoir are walleye, yellow perch, channel catfish, black crappie, smallmouth bass, white bass and tigermuskie. If you're in the mood for a good hike, visit the George S. Mickelson Trail, in the heart of the beautiful Black Hills. Its gentle slopes and easy access allow people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the beauty of the area.
