About

Boxelder Forks Campground sits along Boxelder Creek near the small town of Nemo, South Dakota, within the Black Hills National Forest. The 14 sites are shaded by Ponderosa Pines and White Spruce, offering a quiet forest camping experience with nearby creek access for trout fishing. The Centennial Trail is approximately one mile east of the campground, serving hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. The area also features an extensive network of OHV trails for motorized recreation. Wildlife in the surrounding forest includes elk, deer, squirrels, and various bird species. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Most of the campground closes September 30 each year, though three sites outside the main gate remain accessible year-round with limited services during shoulder season. Potable water from a hand pump is available during the main season but is turned off from early October through mid-May.
