About

Located on the south side of Clinton Lake along the Rock Creek Arm, Rockhaven Park is the only campground in the Clinton Lake area that allows overnight camping with horses and mules. The facility features 24 campsites total, with approximately three-fourths designated exclusively for equestrian campers and one-fourth open to all campers. Twelve sites include electrical hookups. The campground serves as the primary trailhead for the South Shore Trails, providing access to over 80 miles of interconnected equestrian and hiking trails. The campground's main trailhead is located on the north side of the facility, within a short walk or ride from any campsite. A day-use parking area accommodates visitors who want to ride or hike without camping overnight. The park sits within Clinton Lake's scenic landscape of steep bluffs, wooded shoreline, and clear water, where shoreline development has been limited to preserve the natural setting. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the facility provides equestrian-friendly amenities while maintaining the area's natural character.

Directions

From 23rd Street (Clinton Parkway) in Lawrence, go south on Highway 59 (Iowa Street) approximately 2.3 miles. Turn west onto Douglas County Road 458 and drive about 8.5 miles, then turn north (right) on E 700 Road. Continue approximately 0.75 miles to the Rockhaven Park entrance.
