Light to periodically moderate rain is expected for the lower Stehekin Valley this week along with melting snow as temperatures warm into the 40s and 50s. Flows in rivers will increase quickly and reach critical levels. * WHAT...Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues for the lower Stehekin Valley. * WHERE...A portion of North Central Washington, including the following county, Chelan. * WHEN...Until 1100 PM PDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...When the Stehekin River gauge hits 19.3 feet, water breaches the river bank. At 20 feet, water inundates some properties and overtops the temporary corduroy bridge. Company Creek Road begins to flood in places at the northern end and Battalion Creek culverts are beginning to be overtopped. At 20.5 feet, water begins to damage Wood Road. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 924 PM PDT, the Stehekin River is at 19.9 feet. River levels will continue to rise through the week with an expected crest of 22.9 feet on Saturday. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
About
Rock Island Campground is situated along Icicle Creek in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 17 miles from Leavenworth via Icicle Creek Road and Forest Service Road 7609. At an elevation of 2,800 feet, this heavily-used campground spans both sides of Icicle Creek and offers 20 single campsites and 2 double sites available exclusively on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground provides essential amenities including hand-pump drinking water and vault toilets. Each site accommodates a maximum of 2 vehicles, with space for 2 tents or 1 RV and 1 tent per site. Payment can be made via the Recreation.gov mobile app using Scan & Pay, though visitors should download the app before arrival due to limited cellular service in the area. Cash and checks are also accepted. Rock Island serves as an excellent base for outdoor recreation, with the Jack Trout Trailhead located adjacent to the campground providing access to day hiking and backpacking opportunities in the Icicle Creek drainage. The campground operates seasonally and is closed during winter months. Single sites cost $24 per night, double sites $40 per night, with an $11 additional vehicle fee. Interagency Senior and Access pass holders receive a 50% discount on single sites.
Directions
From Leavenworth, turn onto Icicle Road/Forest Service Road 7600 and follow for about 16.5 miles. Take a slight right onto Forest Road 7609, and the campground will be on the left.
