About
Rock Creek Lake Group Camp is a walk-in, tent-only group campground perched at 9,700 feet elevation on the shore of Rock Creek Lake in the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. This single group site accommodates up to 25 people and offers privacy separate from the adjacent main Rock Creek Lake Campground. The site is nestled in a pine forest with filtered views of the lake through the trees, providing a scenic alpine setting for group gatherings. The campground is located near the Tamarack Trail, which leads to high-elevation alpine lakes and ponds, and provides access to the John Muir Wilderness. Rock Creek Lake is known for excellent trout fishing for brook, brown, rainbow, and stocked Alpers trout, with only electric motors permitted on the lake. The area supports abundant wildlife including black bear, mountain lions, mule deer, pine martin, and pika. A nearby pack station offers horseback riding opportunities. This is an active bear area, and all food must be secured in approved containers or vehicles. Visitors must walk from the parking area to the site, and no vehicles are allowed on-site. There is no trash collection, so campers must pack out all garbage. The high elevation means snow typically lingers until late May or early June.
