Remote Campsites

Scenic State Park's remote campsites offer backcountry camping amid towering virgin red and white pines, some of the last remaining old-growth stands in Minnesota. The park features two types of remote camping: backpack-in sites along small Pine Lake, requiring an easy 1.5-mile hike on flat trails, and five canoe or boat-in sites scattered along the shores of crystal-clear Coon and Sandwick Lakes. These primitive sites provide a true wilderness experience with basic amenities typical of Minnesota State Parks backcountry camping. Each site includes a tent pad, fire ring, and access to primitive pit toilet facilities. Some sites feature picnic tables and fire grates. The canoe-in sites surrounded by red pine on the lakeshore are particularly popular for their cathedral-like pine canopy and excellent fishing access. The remote campsites operate seasonally from April 1 through November 1, weather permitting. Reservations are required and can be made up to 120 days in advance through the Minnesota State Parks reservation system online or by phone. Campers should be prepared to pack in all supplies including drinking water, as no potable water is available at the backcountry sites.

Directions

From Bigfork, travel north on County Road 7 approximately 7 miles to the park entrance. For backpack sites, access via trail from parking area near Pine Lake. For canoe/boat-in sites, launch from park boat access on Coon Lake.
