Beatrice Lake Campground

Open

Open seasonally from late April through late October. All 30 sites are first-come, first-served only with no advance reservations available.

About

Beatrice Lake Campground sits on a tree-ringed glacial lake peninsula seven miles from McCarthy Beach State Park's main use area. Technically located within George Washington State Forest but managed by McCarthy Beach State Park staff, this 30-site rustic campground offers a quieter alternative to the park's more popular Side Lake Campground. Most campsites have views of Beatrice Lake, and several offer direct lake access. The campground provides basic amenities suited for primitive camping: vault toilets, hand-pump potable water, and standard site furnishings including picnic tables and fire rings with grills. There are no showers, electrical hookups, or modern facilities. An adjacent boat landing allows campers to launch fishing boats onto the lake. The location serves as an excellent base for exploring the extensive trail network winding through McCarthy Beach State Park and the adjoining George Washington State Forest. Even during peak summer season, this campground sees lighter use than Side Lake, making it relatively easy to find an available site upon arrival.

Directions

From Side Lake, travel north on Highway 5 approximately 7 miles past the main McCarthy Beach State Park entrance. The Beatrice Lake Campground access road will be on the right.
