Chase Point Campground

Open

Open for the season. Showers and flush toilets available from fishing opener through early October; vault toilets remain accessible year-round. Dump station operational during warmer months. Reservations available through the Minnesota DNR reservation system up to 120 days in advance.

Special Weather Statement issued July 21 at 9:57AM CDT by NWS Duluth MN

9:57 AM — 7:00 PM

Due to continued dry conditions in forested areas and gusty north to northwest winds around 20 to 30 mph today, conditions will remain favorable for near-critical fire weather conditions through this afternoon. This is despite relatively higher minimum RH values expected today at 40 to 50 percent. The situation is evaluated daily by the National Weather Service and the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center. Dry and windy conditions could lead to the rapid spread of fires today. For more information on burning restrictions for Minnesota, see www.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/fire/firerating_restrictions.html.

About

Chase Point Campground is the larger of two campgrounds at Scenic State Park, situated on a peninsula overlooking the pristine waters of Coon Lake. The 69 well-spaced sites are nestled among towering pines, providing a wilderness-like atmosphere while still offering modern conveniences. Many sites afford lake views, and campers can hear loons calling at night from their tents. The campground features 21 electric pull-through sites suitable for RVs, with site lengths accommodating vehicles from 39 to 90 feet depending on the specific site. Modern facilities include flush toilets and showers available from fishing opener through early October, plus vault toilets for off-season use. A free dump station serves RV campers during warmer months. Each site comes equipped with a picnic table and fire ring with grill. A lakeside boardwalk directly below the campground provides access to fishing docks, a boat launch, and boat/canoe rentals. The Chase Point Trail offers scenic overlooks of Coon and Sandwick Lakes from an ancient glacial esker, with interpretive signs explaining the area's natural history. The park's virgin pine stands and undeveloped lakeshores create excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.
