About

Red Oak Campground is a developed campground within James River State Park in Virginia's Piedmont region. The 30 sites feature water hookups and electric pedestals with 20-, 30-, and 50-amp outlets, large tent pads (approximately 15 by 24 feet), and wide driveways suitable for RV bump-outs. Each site is equipped with a fire ring grill, picnic table, and lantern hanger under shaded canopy. The full-service bathhouse includes hot showers with four unisex stalls (one wheelchair accessible), a wash sink for dishes, and coin-operated laundry with two washers and dryers. A dump station and boat launch are complimentary for overnight guests. Firewood is available for a small fee. While the campground itself is not directly on the James River (about one mile from the primitive riverside campgrounds), it serves as a central hub for park activities. The nearest supplies are at a country store in Bent Creek, seven miles away, with grocery stores and restaurants in Appomattox (19 miles) and Amherst (22 miles).
