Open year-round for cabin and lodge reservations. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, a 6-night minimum stay is required initially, reducing to 4 nights then 2 nights as the arrival date approaches. The rest of the year requires a 2-night minimum. Check-in is 4 p.m., check-out is 10 a.m.

About
James River State Park in Buckingham County preserves a scenic stretch of the James River and portions of the historic Kanawha Canal route. The park's cabin and lodge accommodations provide a comfortable base for exploring 20+ miles of trails, including 15 miles designed for equestrian use. Two-bedroom cabins sleep up to 6 guests with one bathroom, three-bedroom cabins accommodate up to 8 with two bathrooms, and the six-bedroom lodges can host up to 16 people with three bathrooms. All accommodations include a refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishes, and cookware. Wood-burning fireplaces provide ambiance and supplemental heat. Guests enjoy wrap-around decks furnished with rocking chairs overlooking the forest. Universally accessible units are available: Cabins 11 and 18, and Lodges 5 and 16 offer wheelchair accessibility. Pets are permitted for an additional $20 per pet per night. The park features excellent river access for fishing and paddling, with boat rentals available seasonally. A visitor center operates daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free boat launching is available for overnight guests. The Red Oak Campground's bathhouse and dump station are available to cabin guests if needed.
