About

Branch Pond Campground offers a primitive camping experience within James River State Park, a 1,561-acre park nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The campground features 7 tent-only sites spread through a quiet, wooded area roughly two miles from the historic James River. Each site is equipped with a tent pad, picnic table, and fire ring, with parking available at each campsite. The campground operates year-round and provides primitive restrooms on-site. Potable water is not available at the campground, though it can be obtained at four of the five picnic shelters elsewhere in the park. The park itself offers extensive amenities including 22 miles of multi-use trails, a nature center with gift shop, boat launches, and a dump station near the park entrance available free to overnight guests. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made online or by calling 1-800-933-PARK. The park is located approximately 40 miles northeast of Lynchburg and 95 miles west of Richmond.

Directions
