About

James River State Park sits along three miles of the historic James River in Virginia's Blue Ridge foothills. The 1,561-acre park offers both developed and primitive camping options with amenities ranging from full-hookup sites with bathhouses to secluded riverside tent camping. The park features 22 miles of multi-use trails suitable for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The campground provides access to exceptional river recreation including canoe-in camping, fishing from a wheelchair-accessible pier, and two boat launches. A visitor center with gift shop and natural playground serves park guests. As a certified International Dark Sky Park since 2019, the location offers outstanding stargazing opportunities away from light pollution. Developed sites include water and electric hookups with a full-service bathhouse featuring hot showers and coin laundry. Each site has a fire ring grill and picnic table. The equestrian campground offers pull-through sites with covered horse stalls. Primitive campgrounds provide year-round riverside tent camping with basic restroom facilities.
