Holliday Lake State Park Shelters

Open — Open year-round for day use from dawn to dusk. Shelters can be rented from 8 a.m. to dusk. Nearby campgrounds are closed for the season and reopen the first Friday in March.

Located deep in the Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest, Holliday Lake State Park features two lakeside picnic shelters available for day-use rental. The shelters are situated near the park's swimming beach and provide scenic views of the 119-acre lake surrounded by hardwood forest and managed pine plantations. Shelter 1 is positioned adjacent to the lake edge near the restroom facilities and can accommodate 25 people under the shelter with additional seating available around it. Shelter 2 sits across from the swimming beach and offers greater capacity at 36 people under the shelter, with more seating nearby. This shelter includes a wooden ramp for wheelchair access and an accessible picnic table. Both shelters are equipped with large pedestal grills, picnic tables, electrical outlets, and nearby restroom access. The park itself offers extensive recreational opportunities including 6.5 miles of hiking trails around the lake, unguarded swimming, fishing for largemouth bass and bluegill, and boat rentals. The park is open dawn to dusk daily and sits just minutes from Appomattox Court House National Historical Park. Shelters can be rented from 8 a.m. to dusk and are available first-come, first-served when not reserved. Note that very limited cell service is available in the park, though public Wi-Fi is accessible at the contact station and office.

Directions

Access via State Route 24 between Appomattox and U.S. 60 and from Routes 626, 640 and 692. The park is approximately 12 miles from Appomattox Court House National Historical Park. Park address is 2759 State Park Road, Appomattox, VA 24522. Visitors driving west via Routes 60 and 636 may want to avoid Routes 614 and 640, which have gravel, and proceed west to Route 24.
