About

Ray Roberts Lake State Park Johnson Branch Unit sits on the northeastern shore of Ray Roberts Lake, a 29,000-acre reservoir in the Cross Timbers region of North Texas. The campground offers multiple camping loops: Juniper Cove and Walnut Loop provide electric campsites with water hookups, while Oak Point, Dogwood Canyon, Willow Cove, and Overflow areas feature primitive walk-in tent sites accessible via short walks (up to 1/4 mile) from parking areas. The electric sites accommodate RVs and trailers with 20/30/50-amp service and water connections, though sewer hookups are not available. Each campsite includes a picnic table, outdoor grill, fire ring, and lantern post, with restrooms and showers located nearby. The primitive sites offer a more secluded experience with similar amenities minus the hookups. Johnson Branch also has a Nature Center and an extensive trail system connecting to the larger Greenbelt Corridor. The park operates year-round with gates open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially for weekends and holidays, and can be made through the Texas State Parks reservation system. The entrance fee of $7 per adult applies in addition to nightly campsite fees.
