Rance Johnson Picnic Shelter is located on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway at the Beaver Lake Boat Ramp near Fulton, Mississippi. This day-use facility features a covered shelter equipped with 8 picnic tables and 4 grills, making it ideal for group gatherings and family outings. The shelter is positioned at a convenient boat launch area with a 2-lane boat ramp and courtesy dock, providing easy access to the waterway for fishing and boating activities.
The Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway is a 234-mile system connecting the Tennessee River to the Tombigbee River in Alabama, ultimately linking to the Gulf of Mexico. As one of the largest earth-moving projects in history, the Tenn-Tom Waterway encompasses 180,000 acres of public land available for outdoor recreation. The area offers excellent opportunities for water-based activities and exploring the diverse natural features along this impressive man-made waterway.
The picnic shelter is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with reservations also possible through Recreation.gov. Nearby attractions include the Jamie L. Whitten Campground and visitor center, the City of Fulton, and Itawamba Community College. The facility is unstaffed but maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
