About
Gates of Lodore Campground occupies a remote location on the Green River at the northern end of Dinosaur National Monument, where the river enters the steep-walled Canyon of Lodore. The campground's isolation is part of its appeal, situated 106 miles north of the Canyon Visitor Center and 137 miles from the Quarry Visitor Center. A short trail from the campground provides scenic views of the river as it slices into the mountains and enters the canyon gates. The campground features 19 first-come, first-served sites, all pull-throughs that can accommodate RVs up to 25 feet, with some sites able to handle larger rigs. Sites include picnic tables and either fire pits or grills, with some offering shade. The campground is particularly popular with whitewater rafters who stay here before launching multi-day trips through Lodore Canyon on the Green River. Amenities include vault toilets available year-round and seasonal running water during summer months. There are no hookups, dump stations, showers, or facilities for filling RV water tanks anywhere in the monument. The campground operates on a scan-and-pay system with no reservations accepted. Winter access can be difficult due to snow and road conditions at this high-elevation location in remote northwest Colorado.
