About
Antelope Island State Park sits in the Great Salt Lake, 25 miles north of Salt Lake City, accessible via a scenic 7-mile causeway. As the lake's largest island, it offers a diverse camping experience across multiple campgrounds suited to different preferences. Bridger Bay Campground features developed sites with electric and water hookups in the upper loop, flush restrooms, and showers, accommodating both RVs and tents. White Rock Bay provides more primitive group camping for up to 16 people per site with pit toilets, while Ladyfinger offers walk-in tent sites. For true solitude, backcountry sites require a 5-mile hike to designated tent pads. The island is renowned for its wildlife, with free-roaming bison herds, pronghorn antelope, mule deer, and bighorn sheep wandering across alluvial plains and rocky ridges. Birdwatchers flock here year-round as millions of migratory birds congregate along the shoreline. The park features 36 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, offering spectacular views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Sandy beaches allow swimming in the lake's buoyant salt water. The historic Fielding Garr Ranch provides a glimpse into the island's ranching past. Park hours are 6:00 am to 6:00 pm daily, with facilities open Friday through Monday. Note that water is currently unavailable throughout the island due to visitor center construction, so campers must bring adequate supplies.
