About

Lake Whitney State Park occupies a scenic stretch of shoreline along Lake Whitney, a 23,500-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Brazos River. The park draws visitors from Dallas-Fort Worth and Waco for swimming, boating, waterskiing, and fishing for largemouth bass, catfish, and white bass. Wildlife in the area includes white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, raccoons, and bald eagles. The park offers 137 campsites spread across several loops: the Horseshoe Loop contains 43 full-hookup sites with water, sewer, and 50-amp electric; the Blue Bird, Road Runner, and Sunset Ridge loops have 31 sites with water and electric; and the White-Tail, Star View, and Lake View areas provide 63 water-only sites suitable for tent camping. All sites include a picnic table and fire ring with grill, with restrooms and showers located nearby. Screened shelters and cabins are also available for those seeking more shelter. The park operates year-round and frequently fills to capacity during peak season from March through October. Reservations are strongly recommended.
