About
Plowman Creek Campground is located on the west side of Whitney Lake off the main channel of the Brazos River in Central Texas. The campground features 44 sites, with 32 sites offering water and 30-amp electrical hookups while 12 sites provide water hookups only. All sites include upright BBQ cookers and ground fire rings. Park facilities include restrooms with showers, a basic restroom, and a trailer dump station. The campground serves as the central trailhead for the 12.5-mile Hopewell Trail, which winds through wildlife areas along the lake. Trail users can travel north to Kimball Bend Park or south to Lakeside Village and Powelldale Mountain. The park includes a dedicated equestrian camping area with 10 RV sites and primitive camping options. A boat ramp provides access to Whitney Lake for fishing, boating, swimming, and paddling. The Brazos River flows gently over sand and rocks at Plowman Creek, surrounded by rolling hills covered with cedar, live oak, and post oak. Anglers can fish for a variety of bass, crappie, and catfish. The park includes a playground for children. Operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the campground provides a convenient base for exploring Whitney Lake and surrounding recreation areas.
