About

Lake Brownwood State Park preserves the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps, who spent years building this special park in the heart of Texas during the 1930s. The park sits on the shore of 7,300-acre Lake Brownwood, offering abundant water recreation opportunities including fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing, and paddling. The park loans fishing gear for use within park boundaries. Campers can choose from 87 sites across multiple camping areas. Council Bluff features 20 full hookup sites with water, sewer, and 50/30/20-amp electric. Willow Point offers 35 sites with water and electricity plus tent pads, and 12 water-only tent sites. Comanche Trails provides 11 sites with water and electric (maximum 27-foot RV length) and 9 tent-only sites with electricity. All sites include picnic tables and fire rings with grills. The park also offers 10 screened shelters and a variety of historic cabins and lodges. Nearly six miles of trails wind through the park, with the 2.9-mile Nopales Ridge Trail open to both hiking and biking. Historic CCC-built features include benches along the trails, a scenic pavilion with lake views, a grand recreation hall made of local natural materials, and a grand staircase that early visitors climbed when arriving by boat for dances. The park also offers a volleyball court, softball field, and geocaching opportunities.
