Special Weather Statement issued April 28 at 4:23AM EDT by NWS Albany NY

4:23 AM — 6:30 AM

The combination of dry fine fuels, south to southeast wind gusts between 20 and 30 mph, and relative humidity values between 25 and 35 percent will contribute to an elevated risk of fire spread today for portions of the southern Adirondacks, upper Hudson Valley, eastern Catskills, and the Greater Capital District regions. As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts. Please refer to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website for more information on burn restrictions.

About

Schodack Island State Park sits off the eastern shore of the Hudson River, 13 miles south of Albany, encompassing 1,052 acres bounded by approximately seven miles of Hudson River and Schodack Creek shoreline. The park has been designated a State Estuary and includes a Bird Conservation Area that provides nesting habitat for bald eagles, cerulean warblers, and blue herons in its cottonwood trees. The campground features 66 campsites across multiple loops. Sites 1-43 offer 50-amp electric service including a 220-volt 50-amp outlet, 30-amp outlet, and 110-volt 20-amp GFCI outlet. Sites 44-67 are primitive campsites without hookups. Several pull-through sites accommodate larger RVs up to 50 feet. The Creekside Loop operates the longest season, while the Riverside Loop and Overflow/Bicycle areas have shorter seasons. Recreation options include eight miles of multi-use trails winding through diverse ecological communities, an improved bike trail, kayak and canoe launch, boat launch ramp, fishing access, volleyball courts, and horseshoe pits. The park provides modern facilities including restrooms with showers, a dump station, playgrounds, and both individual and group picnic areas. This is a carry-in, carry-out facility requiring campers to pack out their trash. Reservations can be made up to nine months in advance through ReserveAmerica, with same-day reservations accepted until 3:00 p.m.
