Air Quality Alert issued July 2 at 3:05AM EDT by NWS Upton NY

3:05 AM — 11:00 PM

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties: New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens, Richmond, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland. until 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone. The Air Quality Index, or AQI, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. For additional information, please visit the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website at, https://on.ny.gov/nyaqi, or call the Air Quality Hotline at 1 800 5 3 5, 1 3 4 5.

About

Beaver Pond Campgrounds sits within the 47,000-acre Harriman State Park, one of the largest protected areas in the New York metropolitan region. The 129-site campground offers a mix of tent sites (some with raised platforms) and sites that can accommodate trailers or RVs up to 30 feet. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with a flip-top grill. Centrally located bath houses provide flush toilets, showers, and laundry facilities. The campground's proximity to Lake Welch gives campers access to a protected swimming beach when lifeguards are on duty. Harriman's extensive trail network, including portions of the Appalachian Trail, provides hiking opportunities ranging from easy lakeside strolls to challenging ridge climbs. Fishing and boat launching are also available. Note that pets and alcohol are prohibited at Beaver Pond Campgrounds and Lake Welch. The campground is located in active bear habitat; campers must keep sites clean and dispose of garbage in provided dumpsters. Nearby Lake Welch hosts events that may produce amplified music starting at 7:00 AM on some days.
