About
Located in Putnam and Dutchess counties, Clarence Fahnestock State Park campground offers a classic Northeastern camping experience in the Hudson Highlands. The 80 wooded campsites are spread across rolling terrain near Canopus Lake, the park's centerpiece featuring a sandy swimming beach and excellent fishing for bass, pickerel, perch, and trout. Every campsite is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and charcoal grill. Central restroom facilities include showers available from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The campground operates as a primitive camping area with no electric, water, or sewer hookups, and no dump station. RVs are welcome but should be self-contained. Beyond camping, the park offers a nature center with environmental displays, seasonal boat rentals, a concession stand, and an extensive trail network for hiking and mountain biking. Stillwater Pond and several smaller ponds provide additional fishing opportunities throughout the park's 14,000+ acres.

From I-84, take Exit 19 (Ludingtonville Road) and head north on Route 301 for approximately 6 miles. The park entrance is on the left at 1498 Route 301, Carmel, NY 10512.
