Falling below 25% by early afternoon. * Temperatures... 30s to 40s. * Impacts... With elevated winds and low relative humidities, extremely dangerous fire weather conditions are possible.

R Shaefer Heard Day Use Park is a waterfront recreation area managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, located on the southern end of West Point Lake near the R. Shaefer Heard Campground in Troup County, Georgia. This day-use facility provides visitors with access to a variety of recreational opportunities on West Point Lake, which extends 35 miles along the Chattahoochee River on the Alabama-Georgia state line and features 525 miles of shoreline. The park offers two group shelters available for reservation, each equipped with two tables, a grill, and restroom access. Check-in is at 9:00 AM and check-out is at 9:00 PM. Shelter rentals for special events such as weddings or fishing tournaments may require a Special Event Permit from the West Point Project Management office. The facility also features a boat ramp for lake access, hiking and biking trails, picnic sites, and excellent opportunities for bank fishing along the shoreline. This is an unstaffed location with parking available on a first-come, first-served basis. Pets are allowed on leashes up to six feet in length but are not permitted on beaches. The facility is managed as part of the West Point Lake project and provides a convenient spot for day visitors seeking outdoor recreation on the lake.

From West Point, Georgia, take U.S. Highway 29 north for 4 miles, then turn left at the West Point Project sign and travel a short distance to a right turn into the Day Use Area.
