About

R. Shaefer Heard Campground occupies a prime waterfront location on the southern shore of West Point Lake, a 25,900-acre Army Corps of Engineers reservoir extending 35 miles along the Chattahoochee River between Alabama and Georgia. The campground features 117 sites, all equipped with electric (30 or 50 amp) and water hookups. Sites vary in configuration with both back-in and pull-through options, accommodating RVs up to 37 feet depending on the site. The facility provides full amenities including hot showers, flush restrooms, coin-operated laundry, and a dump station. A boat ramp offers direct lake access for anglers pursuing the abundant bass, catfish, crappie, and bream populations. Hiking trails wind through the surrounding forested landscape of rolling fields and hardwood forests that provide outstanding fall foliage. Note that sites 67-72, 74, 77-78, and 91 feature wooden decks and do not permit tent camping due to lack of graveled impact areas. Gates are locked from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Reservations are made through Recreation.gov with payment by credit/debit card only.
