About
Queens River Campground is a small, primitive campground located near Atlanta, Idaho, along the Middle Fork of the Boise River in the Boise National Forest. The campground features just 4 campsites, each equipped with a campfire ring, picnic table, and grill. A vault toilet is available, but campers must bring their own water as none is provided on-site. The campground serves as an excellent base for wilderness exploration. Just north of the campground, at the end of Forest Service Road 206, is a trailhead that enters the Sawtooth Wilderness and follows the Queens River. West of the campground, a trailhead along Eagle Creek connects to the Black Warrior Trail, a multiuse trail heading north. The Middle Fork of the Boise River offers fishing opportunities for rainbow trout, and the historic mining town of Atlanta is nearby. Access to Queens River Campground requires a commitment to remote travel. From Boise, visitors must travel State Highway 21 north to the Arrowrock Reservoir turnoff, then follow Forest Service Road 268 east for approximately 62 miles past Arrowrock Dam and several other campgrounds. FS Road 268 is very narrow and can be rough, requiring careful driving and ample time. The campground operates seasonally and is accessible until closed by snow, typically from mid-May through mid-October.
