About

Queens River Campground is a quiet, free primitive campground with just 4 sites, situated near Atlanta, Idaho along the Middle Fork Boise River corridor in the Boise National Forest. The remote setting provides a true backcountry feel with basic amenities including vault toilets, fire rings, picnic tables, and grills. No potable water is available, so campers must bring their own supply. Just north of the campground, at the end of Forest Service Road 206, lies a trailhead providing access into the Sawtooth Wilderness along the Queens River. Another trailhead west of the campground along Eagle Creek connects to Black Warrior Trail, a multiuse trail heading north. These trails offer excellent opportunities for day hiking, backpacking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Access requires traveling Forest Service Road 268 (Middle Fork Boise River Road), which is very narrow and rough in places. Allow plenty of time for the approximately 62-mile drive from the Arrowrock Reservoir turnoff. Horse and pack animals are not permitted at the campground itself.

Directions

From Boise, travel State Highway 21 north to the Arrowrock Reservoir turnoff. Travel east along Forest Service Road 268 (Middle Fork Boise River Road) approximately 62 miles, passing Arrowrock Dam and several other campgrounds. FS Road 268 is very narrow and may be rough; use caution and allow plenty of time.
