About

Willow Creek Transfer Camp is a primitive 4-unit campground located in the Sawtooth National Forest's Fairfield Ranger District, designed primarily for equestrian camping and backcountry access. The campground underwent renovations in 2021-2022, updating campsites and restroom facilities. Each of the four large camping units features picnic tables, fire rings, and utility tables, with ADA-accessible site furniture, though the site surfaces remain uneven native material. The campground is particularly attractive to stock users, offering corrals with hay racks and an ADA-accessible stock loading ramp. The looped layout can accommodate larger horse trailers. At the north end of the campground, visitors will find a small parking area and trailhead access to Willow Creek Trail No. 019, an Idaho Centennial Trail segment open to foot traffic, horseback, bicycles, and motorcycles. ATVs and UTVs are not permitted on this trail. Reached via Forest Road 008 off Forest Road 227 near Featherville, the campground sits at approximately 6,000 feet elevation. During the standard operating season from mid-May through October, a $6 per night fee applies, though voluntary donations are accepted. Outside peak season from November through mid-May, the campground is accessible at no charge, weather and road conditions permitting. No potable water is available, so visitors must bring their own supply.
