About
Bird Creek Campground is a primitive, first-come, first-served campground nestled along the South Fork of the Boise River in the Sawtooth National Forest. Shaded by large ponderosa pines, the campground consists of 4 single units and 1 double unit on a narrow stretch of land between Forest Road 227 and the river. The riverside location makes it a popular spot for fishing and tubing during the summer months. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings at each site, but no potable water is available, so campers must bring their own. Dogs are permitted but must be kept on leash, and campfires are allowed only in the provided fire rings. OHVs are restricted to ingress and egress only. Located approximately 34.5 miles from Highway 20 via Pine-Featherville Road and Forest Road 227, the campground offers a peaceful base for exploring the surrounding area's hiking and backpacking opportunities. The standard operating season runs from May through October, with fees collected from mid-May through October 31.
Directions
From Highway 20, travel north on Forest Highway 61 (Pine-Featherville Road) approximately 30 miles to the town of Featherville. From there, travel east on Forest Road 227 approximately 4.5 miles to Bird Creek Campground.
