Chaparral Campground sits at approximately 5,200 feet elevation along the scenic South Fork of the Boise River, about 3 miles east of the historic mining town of Featherville. This small, no-reservation campground offers 7 single sites and 3 double sites spread among mature forest along the river corridor. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, and three vault toilet restrooms serve the campground. The campground operates seasonally from mid-May through October, weather permitting. Fees are $6 per night for single sites and $12 per night for double sites. Campers must bring their own drinking water, as no potable water is available on-site. The nearest water fill station is located 9 miles east, just outside Baumgartner Campground along Forest Road 071, and is typically available until late September or early October. Popular activities include fishing in the South Fork of the Boise River, tubing on the river, day hiking, and backpacking into the surrounding Sawtooth National Forest. Pets are allowed but must remain leashed or contained. OHVs are permitted only for campground access. Horses and pack animals are not allowed in the campground.

Directions

From Highway 20, travel north on Forest Highway 61 (Pine-Featherville Road) approximately 30 miles to the town of Featherville. From there, travel east on Forest Road 227 approximately 3 miles to Chaparral Campground.
