About

Power Plant Campground sits near the headwaters of the Middle Fork Boise River, approximately 69 miles from Boise via Forest Service Road 268. With 24 campsites nestled in the forest, each site includes newly installed fire rings, picnic tables, and grills. The campground serves as a gateway to backcountry adventure, with the Powerplant/Middle Fork Trailhead providing access to trails leading northeast into the Sawtooth Wilderness and its lake-filled basin. The location offers excellent opportunities for fishing in the Middle Fork Boise River, where anglers can catch rainbow trout and whitefish. The historic mining town of Atlanta lies just south of the campground, adding a dose of Idaho history to the experience. Access to the campground requires traveling a long, narrow forest road that may be rough in places, so visitors should allow plenty of time and use caution when driving. The remote setting and proximity to wilderness trails make this campground ideal for those seeking a more secluded camping experience with opportunities for hiking, fishing, and exploring Idaho's backcountry.

Directions

From Boise, travel State Highway 21 north to the Arrowrock Reservoir turnoff. Follow Forest Service Road 268 (Middle Fork Boise River Road) east approximately 69 miles. The road is very narrow and may be rough; use caution and allow plenty of time for the drive.
