About
Johnson Creek Campground is one of the most remote and challenging-to-access campgrounds in the Boise National Forest, located in the Graham area approximately 25 miles from State Highway 21. The campground sits in a mountain meadow near Johnson Creek at 5,600 feet elevation, offering a true backcountry camping experience. Access requires navigating Forest Service Road 312, which becomes progressively rougher and requires a 4x4 vehicle to ford the North Fork Boise River at Graham Bridge. The final approach is via a jeep road located about 200 yards before the campground turnoff. The primitive campground provides 3 tent sites with picnic tables and vault toilets, but no drinking water or trash service. Campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. The remote location and difficult access ensure a peaceful, uncrowded experience for those equipped and prepared for backcountry camping. The area offers access to Johnson Creek fishing and wilderness exploration.
Directions
From Idaho City, travel north on Highway 21 toward Lowman for 18 miles. Turn onto Forest Service Road 384 at Edna Creek and follow for 4 miles to FS Road 312 (Pikes Fork-Graham). Continue on FS Road 312 for 25 miles to the Graham area. Road becomes increasingly rough; 4x4 required beyond Trapper Flat to ford the North Fork Boise River at Graham Bridge. Continue past Graham Cabin and airstrip for 1 mile. Look for jeep road on left about 200 yards before campground.
