About
Johnson Creek Campground is a secluded primitive camping area deep in the Boise National Forest, located about a mile past the historic Graham Cabin and airstrip. The campground sits in rugged backcountry terrain accessible only via a challenging 25+ mile drive on Forest Service Roads 384 and 312, which becomes progressively rougher and requires fording the North Fork Boise River at Graham Bridge. This is true backcountry camping for self-sufficient visitors. The site provides vault toilets but no drinking water, trash service, or other amenities. Campers must bring all water and supplies and pack out everything they bring in. The remote setting offers solitude and access to pristine wilderness in the North Fork Boise River drainage. Due to the high elevation and difficult access, the campground is typically only accessible from mid-July through early October, depending on snow conditions and road maintenance. A high-clearance 4WD vehicle is required year-round due to the river ford and rough road conditions beyond Trapper Flat.
Directions
From Idaho City, travel north on Highway 21 toward Lowman for 18 miles to Forest Service Road 384 at Edna Creek. Turn onto FS Road 384 and drive 4 miles to FS Road 312 (Pikes Fork-Graham). Continue on FS Road 312 for approximately 25 miles to the Graham area. The road becomes progressively rougher; 4WD is required beyond Trapper Flat to ford the North Fork Boise River at Graham Bridge. Continue past Graham Cabin and airstrip for 1 mile to reach the campground.
