About
Quartz Flat Campground is a fully developed Forest Service campground located in the Lolo National Forest along Interstate 90 in Mineral County, Montana. Positioned 45 minutes west of Missoula and 15 minutes east of Superior, the campground offers convenient highway access at the Quartz Flat Rest Area (Milepost 58). The campground features 78 paved campsites spread across three loops, including 6 pull-through sites suitable for larger RVs. At an elevation of 2,900 feet, the 40-acre campground is nestled in a flat valley setting surrounded by pine trees with views of the Clark Fork River to the north.
Amenities include potable water, a dump station ($10 fee for non-campers), both vault and flush toilets, trash service, picnic tables, and fire rings at each site. A self-guided nature trail with interpretive brochures allows visitors to learn about the local environment. Camp hosts are on-site during the operating season. The campground is within close proximity to launch sites along the Clark Fork River, including the renowned Alberton Gorge whitewater rafting area 11 miles to the east. While some sites overlook the river, there is no direct river access from the campground.
Campers should be aware that the campground's proximity to Interstate 90 and active railroad tracks results in significant noise from highway traffic and passing trains. Despite this, the campground serves as an excellent stopover for travelers and a base camp for groups recreating on the river or exploring the National Forest. Gas and groceries are available within 11 miles in Superior or St. Regis.
