About

Fish Lake Camp is a remote backcountry access point in the North Fork of the Clearwater Corridor within the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. The trailhead provides access to Fish Lake, a scenic high mountain lake located near the Idaho-Montana border in the Widow Mountain area. Fish Lake Trail 419 leads to the lake, covering approximately 7 miles one-way. The trail is accessible to hikers, horses, and formerly to ATVs, though motorized use has been prohibited since May 2023 under Forest Order 01-17-53-23-001. The lake is known for cutthroat trout fishing and offers primitive camping opportunities for backpackers willing to make the trek. This is a primitive backcountry location with no developed facilities. Visitors should be fully self-sufficient, bringing their own water, food, and all necessary gear. The area is accessed via Forest Service Road 297.
