About

Clearwater Crossing Campground is a small, primitive campground in Lolo National Forest designed primarily for equestrian use. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets available. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own. The campground features public corrals and hitch rails, with separate parking for horse trailers located outside the main camping area. The campground serves as the primary access point for horseback riding and hiking into the Great Burn area, a remote and scenic backcountry region straddling the Montana-Idaho border. Fish Creek runs adjacent to the campground, providing opportunities for trout fishing. While horse and pack animals are welcome and facilities are provided for them, stock is not permitted within the campground itself and must be kept in the designated corral areas. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis, though access is snow-dependent during winter months. There is no fee to camp. Visitors should be aware of bear safety requirements and proper food storage regulations that apply throughout the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem.
