To provide for public safety and protect natural resources, using any type of motorized wheeled vehicle on the National Forest System roads the Exhibit and attached map, except persons using a tracked over-the-snow vehicle when there is a minimum of twelve inches of snow on the road.

About

Lower Peppermint Campground is located in the southern portion of the Giant Sequoia National Monument within Sequoia National Forest, positioned along Lloyd Meadow Road (Forest Road 22S82) at an elevation of 5,200 feet. The campground provides 17 single-family sites set among pine, oak brush, and grasses, offering a peaceful base for exploring the surrounding wilderness areas. The campground serves as a gateway to numerous outdoor adventures, including access to the Golden Trout Wilderness and the North Fork Kern Wild and Scenic River. Nearby attractions include the Needles, Freeman Creek Grove (also known as Lloyd Meadow Grove) which is the largest unlogged giant sequoia grove outside of a National Park, and various trailheads for wilderness access. The area is popular for fishing, hiking, scenic touring, and hunting during prescribed seasons. Some sites can accommodate RVs up to 16 feet in length, though the campground is best suited for smaller vehicles and tent camping. The campground is accessible from multiple routes: from California Hot Springs via County Road SM50, from Kernville via County Road SM99, and from Porterville via State Highway 190 and Western Divide Highway. Most services are available in Porterville and Kernville.

From Johnsondale, travel 10 miles north on Lloyd Meadow Road (Forest Road 22S82). The campground is accessible from California Hot Springs via County Road SM50, from Kernville via County Road SM99, and from Porterville via State Highway 190, Western Divide Highway (SM107), and County Road SM50.
