About
Lower Peppermint Campground is a rustic Forest Service campground located 10 miles north of Johnsondale along Lloyd Meadow Road (Forest Road 22S82) in the Giant Sequoia National Monument. At 5,200 feet elevation, the campground offers 17 single-family sites set among pine trees, oak brush, and grasses. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site. Potable water is not available, so campers must bring their own supply. Sites can accommodate small RVs and trailers up to 16 feet in length. Campfire permits are required for all fires, barbecues, and camp stoves. Nearby attractions include the Needles rock formation, the North Fork Kern River, and the Freeman Creek Grove of giant sequoias. Fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing are popular activities in the area, with hunting available during prescribed seasons.
