About

Holly State Recreation Area encompasses over 8,000 acres of rolling woodlands and open fields in northern Oakland County, Michigan, less than an hour from Detroit. The McGinnis Lake Campground offers 144 sites with electric service (30-amp or 50-amp), with sites 147-161 without electricity. The campground is divided into East (Maple, Oak, and Aspen loops) and West (Trillium and Hickory loops) sections, with the West section being densely forested. Most campsites are large and spacious, offering a true "up north" camping experience without the long drive. The park provides two accessible deluxe cabins (Wildwood and Valley) on Wildwood Lake that sleep up to six people, featuring two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchenette with microwave and mini fridge, and private lake access with canoes provided seasonally. Two mini cabins (Elm and Cedar) within the campground sleep up to four. Additional camping options include a group-use campground with four sites for organized youth groups. Recreational activities include hiking, mountain biking, disc golf on a 9/18/24-hole course, fishing for bass, bluegill, walleye, northern pike and crappie in multiple lakes, and paddling on Heron, Valley, Wildwood, and Crotched lakes. The park features modern restrooms with showers, vault toilets, a sanitation station, playground, and pet-friendly shoreline.
