Highland Recreation Area Campground sits within one of southeastern Michigan's largest recreation areas, encompassing 5,900 acres of glacial terrain featuring over 10 inland lakes, marshes, and mixed hardwood forests. The campground is designed to accommodate equestrian users with picket poles at each site for horse tethering, though it welcomes all campers. Sites are spacious and wooded, each equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. The campground's rustic character means no electrical hookups or flush toilets, but two vault toilets serve the area and a hand pump near the entrance provides potable water. Sites 20 and 21 are ADA-accessible with concrete pads. Reservations are handled through Michigan's DNR reservation system. Trail access is a major draw. The Cedar Creek Trail departs directly from camp and links to 44 miles of diverse terrain: 11 miles designated for horseback riding, 16 miles for mountain biking, and 17 miles for hiking. The Highland Trail Riders Association helps maintain the equestrian trails and hosts organized campouts twice yearly. Beyond camping, the recreation area offers a swim beach at Teeple Lake, boat launches, picnic pavilions, and a radio-controlled flying field.

From US-23, take exit 67 for M-59 West. Continue on M-59 for approximately 10 miles to the park entrance at 5200 Highland Road (M-59), White Lake, MI 48383. The campground is located within the recreation area.
