About
Murray Lake Campground offers a secluded rustic camping experience within Brighton State Recreation Area's 4,947 acres of rolling terrain, forests, and lakes. The campground features 25 sites located along Murray Lake and Little Murray Lake, surrounded by oak and hardwood forest. Sites accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs up to 40 feet in length. As a rustic campground, amenities are basic but functional, with two vault toilets and one hand pump providing water access. The campground operates on a weekend-only schedule from Memorial Day through Labor Day, offering Friday through Sunday camping during peak season. This limited schedule helps maintain the peaceful, back-to-nature atmosphere that makes Murray Lake a hidden gem. The location provides direct access to the Murray Lake Trail and proximity to the recreation area's other lakes, fishing opportunities, and outdoor activities. Brighton State Recreation Area is located in southeast Michigan in Livingston County, approximately 50 miles northwest of Detroit. A Michigan Recreation Passport is required for entry. The park remains open year-round for day use, but the Murray Lake Campground only operates during its designated weekend season.
