About

Prairie Creek Campground is situated beneath moss-draped oaks on the banks of Woodruff Lake, part of the scenic Alabama River in the region's Black Prairie Belt. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this waterfront campground offers 55 family RV sites and 7 tent-only sites, all equipped with electric hookups. The campground provides comprehensive amenities including flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, a dump station, and laundry facilities. A boat ramp and dock offer direct water access, while a playground, basketball court, and picnic shelter make it an ideal destination for families. Woodruff Lake is renowned for excellent fishing opportunities, with abundant populations of bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish. Boating and jet skiing are popular activities on the lake. For sportsmen, the nearby Lowndes Wildlife Management Area covers 12,500 acres and provides prime hunting for whitetail deer, wild turkey, hogs, and various small game and waterfowl. The Black Prairie Belt region is characterized by rich, dark soils and a mosaic of rolling grasslands intermixed with dense hardwood and pine forests, offering scenic views and diverse wildlife viewing opportunities.

Directions

From Montgomery, Alabama, follow Highway 80 west for approximately 25 miles. Turn right on County Road 29 and follow the signs into the campground.
